Lava Island Crevice

Description

Lava Island is an island in the Deschutes River near Bend, Oregon. It is made up of a lava flow which cooled in the middle of the river. It is often accessible in the winter when they open up the dam downstream which lowers the water level of the river and dries up one of the channels so it is no longer an island.

There are alot of these small crevices on the island which are only about 10 feet deep and therefore not extremely dangerous. However, there was a thin layer of ice over the lava rock this particular morning making it very slippery and increasing my chances of falling in so I had to watch my step and find safe places to cross what would normally be easy just to hop over. I don't know how great the photo really is but I found this volcanic formation very interesting so I am posting this anyway.
